Description
The Bently Nevada 3500/22M is a Transient Data Interface Module designed for high-resolution machinery diagnostics during critical transient operational states. As part of Emerson’s Bently Nevada 3500 series machinery protection system, this module captures dynamic vibration, phase, and process data during startups, shutdowns, and trip events when traditional monitoring misses evolving faults. The 3500/22M interfaces with up to 16 analog channels (vibration, position, temperature, etc.) and 32 digital inputs, streaming time-synchronized waveforms at 102.4 kHz sampling rates to Emerson’s System 1® software. Its 256 MB non-volatile buffer ensures zero data loss during power interruptions, while IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol (PTP) synchronizes measurements across multiple racks with ≤100 ns jitter.
Engineered for predictive maintenance, this module detects incipient failures like rotor bows, rubs, or resonance issues during coast-down periods. Integration with the 3500 framework allows automatic triggering from relay alarms or manual commands. The ruggedized design operates in -40°C to +85°C environments, making it indispensable for power plants, offshore platforms, and heavy industries where transient analysis prevents catastrophic failures.

Main Features and Advantages
High-Fidelity Capture: 102.4 kHz sampling resolves high-frequency events like blade passing or bearing impacts. 24-bit resolution maintains accuracy across 120 dB dynamic range.
Synchronized Diagnostics: IEEE 1588 PTP aligns data across distributed systems (e.g., turbine + generator trains). Multi-rack coordination enables plant-wide transient analysis.
Intelligent Triggering: Sequence-of-Events (SOE) recording links trips to vibration trends. Configurable pre-trigger buffering captures data 5 seconds before alarms.
Zero Data Loss Architecture: Non-volatile storage retains data during power loss. Automatic upload to System 1® post-restoration.
Application Field
The 3500/22M transforms transient analysis in critical sectors:
Power Generation: Captures steam turbine barring roll vibrations, detecting rotor bows before full-speed operation.
Oil & Gas: Records compressor surge cycles during emergency shutdowns to prevent damage recurrence.
Hydroelectric: Maps resonance zones during turbine acceleration to avoid fatigue failures.
Petrochemical: Analyzes pump cavitation during startup under low-NPSH conditions.
Marine: Diagnoses propulsion engine misalignment during load changes.
